Sneha's Lending Library · Mumbai

books deserve more than one reader.

Somewhere in Mumbai is a shelf full of books that have already been loved once. They're looking for their next reader. Maybe that's you.

Borrow from a personal collection of 400+ books — loved, dog-eared, and yes, some still waiting to be read. New additions dropped bi-weekly. Return it, and help build something rare — a community built on trust and good taste.

"every book has more than one reader in it.
I'm just helping it find them."
The person behind the shelf

the shelf, and the story behind it.

ShelfShare started with one shelf and one belief: that a book someone loved is worth far more than one gathering dust.

Behind the shelf is Sneha — a finance professional, a compulsive reader, and the person who will personally recommend every single book you borrow.

The childhood dream was a home filled wall-to-wall with books. Adulthood delivered — just not quite the way she imagined. A full-time job means time is scarce. Retail therapy means the to-read pile is not. Four hundred books later, most of them loved, many of them waiting, none of them content to just sit there — something had to give.

Because books had always been how she found her people. In a city of millions, walking into a room full of strangers is exhausting. Walking into a conversation about a book you both loved is something else entirely. She suspected she wasn't the only one who felt that way.

ShelfShare is what happened next. Not a library, not a book club — something smaller and more honest than both. A shelf with a point of view, a handwritten note in every delivery, and a community built one borrowed book at a time.

The current drop

worldly reads.

Twenty books, twenty places, chosen the same way as always — only ones I've read, only ones I loved enough to send home with someone else. Botswana sits next to Bulgaria. Karachi sits next to California. However far a book has travelled to get here, it still just wants one thing: someone to read it next.

The fine print

simple rules, built on trust.

2 weeks

Each book is yours for 2 weeks. Need more time? One 1-week extension on request. After that, someone else is probably waiting.

One book at a time

One book per person during the pilot. Return it and you're welcome to borrow again — as many times as you like.

Runs on trust

No deposits, no fines. This is a small community and most of us know each other. Social accountability does the work — for now.

Weekends only

Deliveries via Wefast on weekends only — I have a full-time job 😄. Free pickup from my place anytime.

Mumbai only

Pilot is Mumbai-only for now. Outside Mumbai and really want a book? DM me and we'll figure something out.

Lost or damaged

Normal wear is fine — these are books, not artifacts. If a book is lost or severely damaged, please replace it. Repeated offences will get you blacklisted from the shelf. No hard feelings, just consequences. 😅

For the devoted

Sneha's Book Club —
for high frequency borrowers.

Some people borrow a book and return it. Others borrow a book, return it, and immediately ask for another. And then talk about what they read. And then recommend something back.

Those people are my people. Sneha's Book Club is for them — a small inner circle of readers who borrow often, talk about books, and help shape what ShelfShare becomes.

No formal criteria. No application. You'll know you're in it when it happens.

"In a city of millions, finding kindred spirits is an act of luck. Books make it an act of intention."
  • The Drop Party

Inner Circle members meet, present the book they borrowed, swap from their own shelves, and repeat. Books, conversation, community — in the same room.

  • First Dibs on the Drop

You see the new drop before anyone else. By the time the rest of the world finds out, you've already claimed the good ones.

  • Sneha Picks for You

Tell me your last great read, your mood, your chaos level — and I'll find something on the shelf that's exactly right for you right now.

  • Surprise Events

From popup reading sessions to cultural events — the Inner Circle gets first dibs on all the fun stuff we dream up.

  • Help build what comes next

Your borrowing habits and feedback will shape the platform when it exists.

Bonus experience

beyond the bookshelf.

Heritage Walks
with Vinayak.

Sneha's husband Vinayak Talwar is passionate about Mumbai's history and heritage. Inner Circle members get exclusive invitations to his walking tours through the city's most fascinating neighbourhoods.

A Delhi boy by origin, Vinayak brings an outsider's curiosity to Mumbai — looking past the obvious and into the bylanes, the forgotten corners, and the everyday bustle that most people walk past without a second glance. His walks go beyond SoBo and into the parts of the city where the real magic lives — hidden lanes, crumbling architecture, street vendors with stories older than the buildings around them.

Because the best conversations happen when you're moving through a city that has stories of its own.
